Potential Health Effects

Eye Contact:Moderate irritation, redness, blurred vison.
Skin Contact:Prolonged contact may cause irritation with local redness. May cause drying and flaking of the skin.
Skin Absorption:A single exposure is not likely to result in the material being absorbed through the skin in harmful amounts.
Skin Sensitization:
Inhalation:Dizziness, sneezing, breathing difficulty, headaches, and loss of coordination. Prolonged exposure to high concentrations of vapors may by fatal.
Ingestion:Gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, diarrhea.
Repeated Exposure:Xylene is reported to have caused hearing loss in laboratory animals upon exposure to high concentrations; such effects have not been reported in humans.

Section 4 - First-Aid Measures

Eye Contact: Flush with large amounts of water until all material is removed. If irritation persists, get medical attention immediately
Skin Contact: Wash with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before re-use. Shower.
Inhalation: Move to fresh air. Artificial respiration if necessary. Consult physician immediately.
Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Consult physician immediately.
Medical Conditions Aggravated by Exposure: Not determined.

Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures

Extinguishing Media: Fight source of fire. Dry chemical, CO2, Chemical foam.
Fire Fighting Procedures: Water spray to cool containers.
Special Protective Equipment for Firefighters: If this material is involved in a fire, NIOSH approved self-contained breathing apparatus should be worn.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Vapors are heavy and may concentrate at lower levels creating hazard. At high temperatures, containers may burst.

Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures

Steps to be Taken if Material is Released or Spilled: Confine as much as possible. Dike and absorb with inert material such as vermiculite. Transfer to containers for disposal.
Personal Precautions:
Environmental Precautions: Do not contaminate lakes, streams or other water supply.

Section 7 - Handling and Storage

General Handling: Reports have associated repeated and prolonged occupational over-exposure to solvents with permanents brain and nervous system damage. Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhalin the contents may be harmful or fatal. Avoid spontaneous combusiton of contaminated rags or other ignitable material. Keep out of reach of children.
Other Precautions: Wear gloves, goggles and protective clothing to prevent contact with product.
Storage: Store material at temperatures between 2°C (36°F) and 49°C (120°F). Do not store containers in direct sunlight.
