Compatible Substrates

Bumper & Cladding Adhesion Primer is optimized for adhesion to TPO (TEO, PP blend) plastics. Bumper & Cladding Adhesion Primer may be sprayed on TPO plastic surfaces without first sanding or scuffing the surface.

Bumper & Cladding Adhesion Primer is not recommended over other substrates such as raw polyurethane (PUR) or OEM painted bumpers. Bumper & Cladding Adhesion Primer may have adequate adhesion to these substrates as long as they are scuffed or sanded.

Compatible Topcoats

Bumper & Cladding Adhesion Primer may be topcoated with one of the approved base/clear refinishing systems listed here.

Additional Notes:

Bumper and Cladding Adhesion Primer is ready to spray, but it may be thinned if desired with Bumper & Cladding Coat Reducer or straight toluene (up to 5% by volume)

Bumper and Cladding Adhesion Primer is heavily pigmented for better hide. The pigment loading is so high, that there may be undisolved chunks of pigment in the paint. We recommend straining the paint or thinning the paint as described above.

Raw TPO Bumpers

Bumper & Cladding Adhesion Primer's resin system is optimized for adhesion to raw TPO plastic. Urethane Supply Company recommends the use of Bumper and Cladding Adhesion Primer only over raw TPO substrates, NOT polyurethane or OEM primed bumpers. To the best of our knowledge, all domestic manufacturers ship their bumpers with primer. The import manufacturers most likely to ship raw TPO bumpers are Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, and Kia. This table is provided to help you identify the type of plastic used to produce a particular bumper. If you are not sure whether the bumper is primed, we recommend sanding an inconspicuous area with 400 grit to see if it dusts up or sands through.
