Look at the following picture... It is a 1998 Dodge Caravan and the bumpers and cladding were repainted in September 2003. That's five years worth of sun damage and fading. Not only that, but this bumper was beginning to develop tiger stripes.
Step 1The bumper was cleaned with soap and water to remove the water soluble contaminants. Then, the bumper was cleaned with Part Number 1000-A Super Clean Plastic Cleaner to remove tar and bumper sticker glue. That's all the preparation that is needed. No scuffing or sanding is required! |
Step 2Tape off the areas that you don't want painted. |
Step 3Apply a light coat of Bumper and Cladding Coat. Apply a second light coat if you didn't get enough "hide" with the first coat. It's better to appply light coats than heavy coats. It dries much quicker that way. |
Step 4The cladding on the tailgate was also refinished. This Caravan had a black handle and a black license plate light cover. We went ahead and matched them to the color of the bumper and cladding. |
Step 5Remove your tape and your done... Because the handle and license plate cover were painted to match the bumper, this van actually looks better than it did when it was built! And, it only took about an hour and a half. |
